The head of a law firm behind one of the biggest class action lawsuits in English legal history has been abruptly replaced.

Tom Goodhead, chief executive and co-founder of London-based Pogust Goodhead, has stepped away from the role. Chief operating officer Alicia Alinia has taken over.

The leadership change comes at a critical moment for the firm as it awaits a ruling from the High Court regarding its £36billion class-action lawsuit against Anglo-Australian mining giant BHP.

The case concerns the collapse of the Samarco dam in Brazil, which killed 19 people and contaminated waterways and land spanning several villages in 2015.

An internal memo from the firm said Goodhead was ‘on leave’, according to the FT. He could not be reached for comment.
