Russian leader Vladimir Putin has reportedly agreed to a peace deal with Ukraine which would see the US and Europe give the war torn country a set of new security guarantees
Vladimir Putin has allegedly approved a groundbreaking peace agreement that would see America and Europe provide Ukraine with comprehensive new security measures. Donald Trump’s key ally Steve Witkoff revealed the surprising development, moments after the former President claimed “big progress on Russia”.
In an astonishing turn of events, Russia has reportedly even offered compromises regarding the five territories it unlawfully annexed – Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia and Crimea. Diplomatic sources suggest Putin might accept a territorial exchange to retain Donetsk and Luhansk whilst ceasing southern advances.
This follows Putin’s nuclear threats after launching another devastating assault on Ukraine, reports the Mirror.
Witkoff stated: “We agreed to robust security guarantees that I would describe as game-changing. The US could offer Article 5-style protection – one of the main reasons Ukraine wants NATO membership. We covered almost all the other issues necessary for a peace deal.”
The development emerges ahead of crucial discussions in Washington between Volodymyr Zelensky and Trump, with Sir Keir Starmer and numerous European leaders arriving to demonstrate solidarity.
Starmer will accompany Zelensky at the White House, with No10 maintaining that Britain’s support for Ukraine will continue “for as long as it takes”.
Also standing with the Ukrainian president are EU chief Ursula von der Leyen, French president Emmanuel Macron, Germany’s Friedrich Merz and NATO boss Mark Rutte, the Sun reports. Insiders reveal Zelensky pleaded with Europe’s leading figures to accompany him for “moral support and solidarity” before the crucial meeting with Trump.
This marks Zelensky’s first visit back to the Oval Office since his heated confrontation with Trump and JD Vance earlier this year, during which he was embarrassingly ejected from the White House.
The strategy heaps additional pressure on Putin, who has been desperately attempting to regain influence following his own peace talks with Trump in Alaska. Yet despite the intense diplomatic efforts, both Russia and Ukraine continued exchanging drone attacks today, highlighting just how precarious the route to peace truly is.
Putin’s proposal allegedly extends beyond Ukraine’s frontiers, with preliminary clauses indicating Moscow would pledge not to strike other European countries.
In return, Kyiv would abandon its NATO membership aspirations, officially acknowledge Crimea as Russian soil, and consent to territorial exchanges involving Donetsk and Luhansk.
Western diplomatic sources informed Reuters that the arrangement also encompasses gradual sanctions relief should Russia honour the ceasefire terms.
