EastEnders fans are convinced they know how Jamie Borthwick’s character Jay Brown will be written out of the soap after it was confirmed the actor had been axed
EastEnders viewers reckon they’ve sussed out how Jamie Borthwick’s departure will unfold on the soap – and it’s absolutely heartbreaking.
Jamie became part of the iconic BBC programme back in 2006, taking on the character of Jay Brown. Throughout the years, he’s certainly been at the centre of some major plotlines.
From losing his parents at just 14 to the devastating loss of his cherished wife Lola (Danielle Harold), his journey in Walford has been packed with emotional turmoil. However, this week brought confirmation that actor Jamie has been given the boot from the soap after nearly two decades.
BBC Studios, the production company behind the show, confirmed to the Mirror: “We can confirm that Jamie Borthwick will not be returning to EastEnders. We do not comment on individual matters.”
The star, who brings Jay Brown to life, was reportedly seen “looking downcast and unshaven this week”, with sources suggesting he only discovered the bosses’ decision in recent days, reports OK!.
Reports also indicate that Jamie was scheduled to resume filming this month after his suspension in June, following his use of “entirely unacceptable” language whilst appearing on strictly-come-dancing>Strictly Come Dancing in 2024.
Nevertheless, he’s now been axed completely. Fans are now convinced they’ve figured out exactly how show chiefs will handle Jay’s departure from the soap.
On an EastEnders Facebook fan page, one viewer commented: “It wouldn’t surprise me if they kill Jay off now.” Another supporter agreed: ” Yep probably.” A third wrote: “That would be brutal especially to be killed off-screen.”
The announcement of Jamie’s departure from the soap follows his suspension from Jungle for using a derogatory term for people with disabilities to describe residents of Blackpool.
A BBC spokesperson stated at the time: “This language is entirely unacceptable and in no way reflects the values or standards we hold and expect at the BBC. We have robust processes in place for this.”
Jamie also issued an apology in the wake of his suspension, stating: “I want to apologise sincerely and wholeheartedly for the words I used in the video showing my reaction to making it through Blackpool week on Strictly.
“I am deeply sorry for any offence and upset my words and actions have caused. It is no excuse, but I did not fully understand the derogatory term I used and its meaning. That is on me completely.”
EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One.
