The Met Office said the giant hurricane will enter the North Atlantic in early October, causing a ‘widely unsettled and windy’ weather conditions for Brits up and down the country
Brits are being told to brace for “wet and very windy” conditions as tropical cyclone Hurricane Humberto takes hold of the UK’s weather system. The Met Office said spells of rain and strong wind are expected to hit northwest England next weekend while the southwest basks in dry, warmer-than-usual weather.
Forecasters said as Hurricane Humberto moves into the North Atlantic and loses its tropical characteristics, this will influence the UK’s climate with the potential for wet and very windy conditions around the first weekend of October.
There is also a potential for “further Atlantic tropical cyclone activity” including more spells of wet and windy weather across northern areas and lengthier dry spells in the south.
The Met Office predicts temps will be a little above average by day before plummeting to offer chilly nights and overnight fog in the south.
The following fortnight – Saturday, October 11, to Saturday, October 25 – will see more unsettled conditions in northern areas while the south faces “drier interludes”. From mid October, there is a chance of more widely unsettled weather to form with more frequent bouts of wet and windy conditions impacting chunks of the UK.
The Met Office said with the likelihood of westerly winds dominating, temps should should average out a little above the seasonal norm. Overnight temperatures could be relatively mild with “a reduced incidence of overnight fog, compared to normal”.
It comes as swathes of the UK prepare for a turbulent start to October with weather maps predicting torrential downpours and gusts reaching 75mph battering areas such as Yorkshire and Lancashire.
Fresh weather maps from WX Charts reveal that a formidable low-pressure system is poised to barrel in from the Atlantic on Friday, October 3, delivering fierce gales to northern England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland by evening, particularly around 7pm.
The chaotic conditions are forecast to continue through Saturday, October 4. Lancashire faces the prospect of more than 50mm of rainfall, whilst sections of Yorkshire could experience approximately 10mm.
Scotland, the Lake District, and particularly Argyll and the Isles are also preparing for substantial precipitation throughout the weekend.
These meteorological predictions follow an abrupt shift into autumn across large portions of the UK, reports the Express.
This week has seen overnight temperatures plummeting beneath 10C across numerous UK regions, with widespread downpours creating a soggy and rather sudden seasonal transition.
