Jo Joyer has addressed the possibility of making a comeback to her role as Tanya Branning in BBC’s EastEnders, after exiting the soap over 10 years ago

More than ten years have passed since she departed EastEnders, but with numerous members of her on-screen clan making their way back to the BBC soap, viewers are desperate to discover whether Jo Joyner will be returning as Tanya Branning anytime soon.

The actress portrayed Tanya between 2006 and 2013, with her character serving as the cornerstone of the beloved Branning dynasty alongside spouse Max, brought to life by Jake Wood.

Jo has stepped back into the role twice since her departure, though both cameos were fleeting, leaving supporters yearning for a more substantial comeback.

During a stint on BBC Breakfast on Tuesday (23 September), Jo tackled questions about potentially returning to EastEnders as Tanya and declined to dismiss the possibility entirely.

“I’ve got to ask you about EastEnders while you’re here. Brannings returning in various shapes and sizes,” Jon Kay put to the actress.

Jo quipped: “All over it at the moment, aren’t they? !” which led Jon to enquire: “Would you go back? Would Tanya go back?”.

She confessed: “I always say never say never. But, I have got a busy year or so ahead, so it’s definitely not happening imminently.”

BBC Breakfast presenter Sally Nugent then attempted to extract more details from Jo, with the soap favourite elaborating: “Well, I just think, she’s not dead. And, who knows? But, no. I can definitely say that I’m a bit back to back for the next year.”

Jo’s remarks follow a string of characters making their return to Walford, with her former colleague Jake recently stepping back into his role as Max Branning, reports OK!.

Jo and Jake, who played the unforgettable couple Tanya and Max in EastEnders, were at the heart of many dramatic storylines, from Max’s scandalous affair with Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) to Tanya’s shocking decision to bury Max alive.

Now, Tanya and Max’s eldest daughter, Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa), has returned to Albert Square with her two sons, Louie and Jimmy. She’s been joined by her teenage brother Oscar (Pierre Moullier), who recently revealed that he’s no longer in contact with their mum, Tanya.

There have also been a few references to Tanya’s mum Cora (Ann Mitchell) from Oscar and Lauren, as well as mentions of Tanya’s sister Rainie (Tanya Franks) and baby Abi, who is the daughter of Tanya and Max’s late daughter Abi.

EastEnders airs Monday – Thursday on BBC One at 7.30pm. BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One from 6am.
