There’s nothing quite like the thrill of a holiday, but sometimes travellers can encounter some truly unexpected scenarios at their chosen accommodation. This was exactly the case for Danielle Mason, 42, who woke up one morning during her Turkish getaway at 7.30am to a rather baffling sight.

The ex-model turned cleaning expert shared that she was utterly gobsmacked by what she saw upon waking up to something entirely extraordinary. She posted a video on TikTok revealing exactly what she stumbled upon in the early hours, expressing her astonishment as she’d never seen anything quite like it on a summer holiday before.

Danielle described a sunbed “drama” that had unfolded, leaving her utterly perplexed by the situation, according to the Mirror. Of course, this is far from the first story of sunbed skirmishes to emerge over the summer months.

In the clip, Danielle commented: “So, it’s 7.30am in Turkey. It’s already 40 degrees, and the sunbeds are already taken.”

She then sweeps the camera across the pool area where the loungers are clearly in view. While most remain vacant, towels and various personal belongings have been strewn across them, reports Chronicle Live.

It seems several guests were keen to stake out their prime spot for the day ahead. Danielle continued: “There’s just not a hope in hell that I’m getting up at 5am to fight for a sunbed. It’s absolutely ridiculous. It’s supposed to be a holiday.”

The video has garnered numerous views since it was shared, with viewers eagerly expressing their thoughts.

Danielle’s followers offered a range of viewpoints on the issue. One holidaymaker recounted their experience, stating: “We were in Turkey last year, and our resort went around at 10am, and any towels not being used were collected and a €5 charge was implemented to get them back. It was wonderful to watch.”

In response, Danielle said: “Love that.” Another chimed in: “Wow – I’m so with you. It’s nuts.” A third commented: “Wow, the hotel in Mallorca was not as bad as this. I wonder what time people come down and eventually sit on their beds?”.

“We’re a family of four, but knowing there aren’t enough beds, we only take two as the kids don’t need them.” To which Danielle responded: “5am and they go to sit with the towels. Not much of a holiday – actually terrible!”.

Meanwhile, a fourth viewer also remarked: “I hate this. I would move the towel off. Some people put their towels there and are not seen all day.”

On the topic of poolside manners, some holidaymakers have a habit of placing towels on sun loungers to reserve them while they’re away, although this could violate hotel rules. Travellers should always check if such restrictions apply before attempting this during their holiday.

Moreover, this practice can be seen as discourteous when done for extended periods while the lounger remains unoccupied, potentially causing annoyance among other guests.
