A new survey has looked into the top hairstyles for men across the UK, with Leicester named as the moustache capital and London the place for full beards
Leicester has been named the UK’s top city for moustaches, according to a new poll, with London and Leeds taking the lead in the chest hair department. A survey of 2,000 blokes led to a detailed map of Britain’s head and body hair trends, showing that full beards are the choice of one in five Londoners.
The Northwest and Wales are the preferred regions for a well-trimmed goatee, while stubble is most popular in the West Midlands. As for hairstyles, buzz cuts, clean shaven heads and crew cuts topped the list, followed by side partings and high skin fade blends.
The study revealed that three out of five gents with facial hair prefer to style it themselves rather than seeking professional assistance. Four in ten use an electric trimmer – a treasured tool – with a staggering 78 per cent refusing to share theirs.
However, a third admit they find it baffling when it comes to choosing the right tool for the job, according to data from OnePoll.com. Of those who do pop into a barber for a trim, 32 per cent do so weekly.
The research was commissioned by grooming brand REMINGTON, which has teamed up with pundit and former footballer Micah Richards to promote confidence in home grooming.
Micah said; “Keeping your trim fresh is the key to feeling great. There’s nothing better than looking in the mirror and knowing everything is on point, it gives you that extra boost of confidence.
“I’ll admit, I’ve spent a lot over the years on keeping fresh, but what I’ve learnt is that you can still get that barbershop finish at home. With the right tools and a bit of confidence, it’s actually easier than people think.”
The study revealed that four in ten men view maintaining facial hair as most important, with a quarter suggesting that styling it makes them more attractive to a partner or potential love interest.
For this reason, 14 per cent keep their facial hair because their partner prefers it or to stand out from the crowd. Other reasons included it suiting their look, convenience and boosting confidence.
Among some of the top gadgets owned by men were: nose or ear trimmers, beard shaping tools, and eyebrow trimmers. Other popular grooming products include aftershave, shaving cream or gel, and moisturiser.
A spokesperson for REMINGTON, makers of the Limitless X X9 said: “Having a fresh trim is really important when it comes to confidence. Whether you’re rocking a monster moustache or some devastating sideburns, facial hair also plays a big role.
“And while men traditionally are less out-there with their clothing choices, many make a powerful statement with the way they wear their hair, be it facial or on top of the head.
“It’s brilliant to see more people feeling confident about taking grooming into their own hands. This often comes from having the right device. Feeling fresh can make all the difference whether it’s first impressions, a big occasion or even meeting someone new.”
