Love Island’s voiceover star, Iain Stirling, has given fans a sneak peek at his new show, separate from the popular dating programme. The stand-up comedian, known for his witty commentary on the ITV2 reality show, is set to appear on Comedy Central tonight.

He’ll be joined by a stellar line-up of comedians, entertainers and online personalities. These famous faces will take jabs at their biggest internet annoyances, ranging from dubious wellness trends to conspiracy theories that make flat earthers seem almost reasonable.

The eight-part series, titled ‘Iain Stirling’s Roast The Internet’, promises to knock the internet down a notch or two, while secretly hoping their best moments will go viral.

To give fans a taste of what’s to come, Comedy Central and Iain Stirling shared a teaser clip on social media, captioned ‘Warning! Roast the internet spoiler’. The brief video showcased snippets of some of the series’ upcoming highlights, reports OK!.

Joining the quest to explore the strangest corners of the web are; Amy Gledhill, Asim Chaudhry, Babatunde Aléshé, Desiree Burch, Ellie Taylor, Fatiha El-Ghorri, Guz Khan, Harriet Kemsley, Jamali Maddix, Joe Thomas, Jon Richardson.

Also adding to the star-studded lineup are Josh Jones, Katherine Ryan, Kerry Godliman, Kiell Smith-Bynoe, Lara Ricote, Layton Williams, London Hughes, Maisie Adam, Tom Allen, Vicky Pattison and Vogue Williams.

The programme will feature special guest appearances from Celya AB and Lou Wall, alongside a collection of recognisable internet personalities who have captured online audiences.

Discussing the production process, Iain revealed: “I am definitely now more aware of the underlying ‘invisible guiding hand’ and the motivations of social media in terms of what they’re trying to get, they’re selling your attention to companies, all they want to do is keep your attention and when you learn that and you see the ways they go about it, it’s sort of scary.”

He explained: “You’ll get emails saying ‘you’ve been tagged in something’ but you’ll never get shown the thing you’ve been tagged in, you have to click to open the app to find it.”

Highlighting another concerning change, he noted: “Remember the depression you felt when it would say ‘you’ve finished Instagram for today’, that message will never show again now.”

Reflecting on a key insight, Iain shared: “Someone said to me once ‘if a product’s free, then you’re the product’ so I have got that in the back of my head now.”

He also exposed the lengths some go to for visibility: “Also the way people use it to try and push their own brands, there are people out there, and I didn’t think this was true but there are influencers out there who will set up 200 plus accounts and just post loads of stuff all the time just so they’re in people’s feeds, and they don’t care whether the stuff is good or bad, kind or not, they just want it out there.”

Concluding his observations, he added: “I learnt things like that from the show and found them quite scary. We were filming two shows a day so it was pretty work-heavy.”

The show is poised to showcase some of the ‘best comedians in the country’, hence it’s being hailed as a ‘must-watch’ for comedy enthusiasts.
