Married at First Sight UK star Sarah Gillanders has responded to backlash after her “awkward” wedding to Dean Vary.
The tenth series of the reality TV sensation returned to E4 on Sunday night (September 21), introducing a fresh crop of hopeful singles who were ready to marry a complete stranger.
The first couple to be matched were Sarah, an Aberdeen-based recruitment consultant, and Dean, a team building host from Feltham, both aged 31.
Sarah confessed her past penchant for “bad boys” hadn’t panned out, leading her to seek out the “nicest guy in the world”.
Dean, on the other hand, admitted he’d been in love before but never felt the sentiment reciprocated, often being told he was “punching”, reports OK!

On paper, they seemed a match made in heaven, but Sarah wasn’t thrilled when she laid eyes on her groom-to-be at the altar.
“No, I don’t fancy Dean, I’m so sorry,” she candidly confessed.
Her unease escalated as the day wore on, with Dean’s rapping vows and musical serenade at the reception doing little to win her over.
Speaking to the cameras, Sarah said, “Dean is such a lovely guy, but I’m going to have to be honest, I don’t want to rip his clothes off. I’m just sensing a friend vibe more than a romantic vibe, and I haven’t come here for a friend.”
She added: “My main concern moving forward is will the spark come. I’m not sure where I’m at at the moment. I don’t know, it’s still early days.”
Meanwhile, Dean was over the moon with how things unfolded, expressing: “It was way better than anything I could have hoped. This is my type of lady. She has passed the vibe check. The vibe check is off the scale.”
The show’s audience were frustrated by Sarah’s response to Dean, with many airing their views on X (previously known as Twitter).
“Sarah who usually goes for bad boys is put off, I’m shocked,” one viewer posted, while another chimed in: “Sarah hasn’t even given him a chance, she wrote him off the moment she set eyes on him.”
A third shared: “Wow that was awkward,” and another echoed: “Sarah and Dean is going to be a friendship couple isn’t it?”
In contrast, a fourth fan commented: “I hope Sarah is successful in this marriage. If not, I hope she heals. Dean, I think, is completely the right guy for her. He seems the nicest, sweetest guy!”
Sarah has since responded to the backlash on social media. On her Instagram Story, she posted: “This one is for the trolls,” accompanied by a quote stating: “So many people inspire me to be nothing like them.”
On the other hand, her husband Dean took to his own Instagram Story to express gratitude for the “overwhelming love and support” from fans.
