Kirsty Gallacher has admitted she regrets doing Strictly in 2015 as it was the wrong time for her
Kirsty Gallacher has admitted she regrets doing Strictly Come Dancing just a year after her divorce.
The star was a contestant on the BBC show in 2015, where she was paired with pro Brendan Cole. She had split from her husband Paul Sampson the year before and has now confessed that she “wasn’t in the best place personally” and would relish another shot at the coveted Glitterball trophy, reports OK!
The Global radio star was 39 when she did the BBC contest and was still grappling with the emotional aftermath of her divorce from rugby player Paul Sampson, following four years of marriage and a total of 14 years together.
During an exclusive photo shoot, she confessed: “I’d just got divorced, there was a lot of trauma there, so I probably regret saying yes that year. But I would’ve loved to have done it another year when things were more settled. I was just really struggling with my personal life.”
Previously, Kirsty disclosed that she was invited to participate in the iconic BBC show a year earlier, but due to her ongoing separation, she declined the offer.
Speaking to Gabby Logan on her The Mid Point podcast in 2023, Kirsty reminisced about the struggle of balancing her home life and the Strictly schedule.
“I was a wreck,” she said. “I was skinny as a rake. I was running on empty, running from dance rehearsals with the lovely Brendan Cole to Sky Sports to rehearsals at night.
“It was more than exhausting, emotionally, physically.”
Kirsty and Brendan were booted out in week six following a Charleston routine in the dance-off against pop star and actress Jamelia and her professional partner Tristan MacManus.
After the results of the public vote were revealed, Kirsty graciously praised the Superstar singer, declaring: “It’s been a wonderful experience but Jamelia deserves it more than me and I really mean that, she’s a very natural dancer.”
The star is now settled with former rugby professional Darren Clayton, and is presenting her own Gold Radio Drive programme every weekday.
This year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing will kick off on BBC One on Saturday September 20
