With the new series of Strictly Come Dancing just weeks away, Vicky Pattison has admitted she is gearing herself up for a tough mental ride whilst she is on the show
Vicky Pattison fears she will be hit by panic attacks and suicidal thoughts when Strictly kicks off. The presenter suffers from Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) and it can be crippling for her at times.
As Strictly is notoriously stressful and difficult, she is braced for mental health issues.
It comes following a string of scandals that have hit the BBC favourite in the past two years.
Vicky said: “My condition can cause panic attacks, anxiety, insomnia and exhaustion. In some moments there can be suicidal thoughts.
“It affects me in the 10 days before my period. Like every woman dealing with it, I’m just riding the wave.
“There are moments I can be OK and be the bright, shiny version of myself that everyone expects. And then there are moments where I’m debilitated by it.”
With less than a fortnight to go until the first live show, Vicky is struggling to cope with nerves.
She said: “I’m in a moment now where everything feels heightened and stressful.
“It’s been a long time since I did I’m A Celebrity and MasterChef. Strictly ups the ante on the anxiety front.
“I am scared,” she confessed. “I don’t want to let anyone down — my dance partner or the viewers.”
Vicky is hoping to manage her symptoms as much as possible so she can thrive on Strictly. She said: “I’m looking into homeopathic alternatives.
“Quite often with PMDD what you get offered is antidepressants and I don’t want to take them. I like feeling my things — the highs and lows.”
