EXCLUSIVE: Amanda Holden has returned to screens with a brand new gameshow called The Inner Circle

Amanda Holden made a career admission as she opened up on an “extraordinary” project.

The Britain’s Got Talent judge is hosting a brand new quiz show called The Inner Circle, where backstabbing and deception take centre stage.

BBC viewers have been treated to two versions of the quiz. The daytime game sees six contestants battle it out to outsmart and outwit the other players, while on Saturday nights, fans can tune in to see celebrities team up with members of the public to play.

Throughout the competition, participants are secretly allocated a hidden cash prize ranging from nothing up to £4,000 during daytime episodes, or £5,000 for the weekend show.

Only each individual knows their own worth, with absolutely no requirement to be honest as they’re plunged into psychological warfare involving cunning tactics and nerve-wracking challenges, reports the Mirror.

Speaking on the set of The Inner Circle in Glasgow earlier this year, Amanda revealed that her first gameshow presenting role was “really enjoyable”.

“The main reason I did it is because I feel so lucky in my career that I’ve done basically everything except a Bollywood movie. I thought this is something to add a string to my bow,” she exclusively revealed.

“That’s what me and my husband said when we were sort of discussing the reason that maybe why I should consider doing it. So, I really enjoyed it.

“And the main reason that I enjoyed it was because I didn’t feel like I sort of had to stick to stringent game show, quizzy rules. It feels a bit more organic to me and a bit more natural and easy. So, that’s why I enjoyed it.”

Amanda also revealed details about developing the programme, which started with a pilot that was filmed in an old church hall in London.

The moment proved particularly poignant for the presenter, as she found herself back in the same venue where she had rehearsed for a theatrical production shortly after graduating from drama school.

“We made a pilot and everything for it and it was all tested and we did rehearsals in a random church hall in London with people and worked out how the games were,” Amanda revealed.

“I was there for all of it. [It was] extraordinary because we just sort of had a laptop with some words on and I would make stuff up as I went along and talk to somebody and pretend you were a milkman.”

The Inner Circle premiered on Monday (October 6), with fans quickly sharing their frustration online as they felt the show was “overcomplicated” and too similar to Golden Balls or The Weakest Link.

“Was quite looking forward to #TheInnerCircle beginning but it’s literally Golden Balls with s*** questions!” one person wrote on X (formerly Twitter), with another adding: “Does anyone else have absolutely no idea what is going on?”

The Inner Circle is available to stream on BBC iPlayer
