Zinedine Zidane has given Arsenal the green light after lauding one of Mikel Arteta’s transfer targets, but Viktor Gyokeres has come underfire for his ability to lead the Gunners to the Premier League title

Arsenal sit at the top of the table as the Premier League makes its return this weekend, with Mikel Arteta hoping his side can maintain their impressive form.

An unbeaten streak dating back to early September has supporters buzzing ahead of Saturday night’s journey to Fulham. And Arteta has seen his players impress on the international scene throughout October.

Nevertheless, he’ll be hoping they’ve reserved their best displays for domestic action as Craven Cottage beckons.

Here, the Daily Star Sport brings you everything you need to know about the latest developments emerging from the Emirates Stadium this week.

Zinedine Zidane hails Arsenal target

Zinedine Zidane praised the ability of Arsenal target Kenan Yildiz as he continues to impress for Juventus. The Gunners have long been keen on the forward and recently sent scouts to watch the 20-year-old during his clash with AC Milan.

Whilst London neighbours Chelsea submitted a £61million offer for the Turkish sensation during the summer, which was rejected, Arteta might include him on his January shopping list.

Zidane revealed to Fanatik that he’s eager to see the youngster build upon some promising displays for Juve going forward.

The former Real Madrid legend commented: “I like him, he is a good player. He scores goals. He has quality. He still needs to improve and prove himself. Juventus are doing well with Tudor, he is slowly improving. I am happy for him and for Juventus.”

Mikel Arteta sent Premier League warning

Joleon Lescott is convinced that Viktor Gyokeres doesn’t possess the attributes required to drive Arsenal to Premier League glory.

The striker, who arrived from Sporting CP in the summer, has netted three times in 10 outings for the Gunners so far and has left the former Manchester City defender underwhelmed.

Speaking to Sky Bet, Lescott declared the Swedish forward is merely “okay” and not good enough to deliver Arsenal’s elusive title triumph.

He remarked: “I would describe Victor Gyokeres as ‘okay’. If you’re going to win the league, your striker can’t be okay, he has to be top. I don’t think Mikel Arteta can get Arsenal over the line in the Premier League.”

The 43-year-old did suggest the north London outfit could succeed in continental competition, stating: “But in the Champions League, it’s different.

“With the way he rotates and because of that big gap [before the knockout stages], no one knows what kind of form or fitness teams will be in. That suits Arsenal better than having to be consistently good every single week to win the league.”

Mosquera hails Arsenal’s ‘beast’ striker

Cristhian Mosquera remains a firm supporter of Gyokeres’ capabilities, dismissing Lescott’s assertions that the striker isn’t Arsenal’s missing piece up front.

The Spanish centre-back 35941630raved about the Swede’s excellence in training sessions and insisted he’s lifted the Gunners’ defensive unit in every session. Speaking to Spanish publication Diario AS, Mosquera said: “He’s a beast, an animal. Training with him helps defenders improve. There were great players at Valencia, but training with such top-level players is a huge leap.”

The defender has proved a reliable deputy for the sidelined William Saliba, chalking up two clean sheets and three victories from four Premier League outings.
