The fire service sent 12 fire engines and five brigade response vehicles to the incident which happened at a hotel in Birmingham, with some 60 firefighters involved.
An early morning blaze at a Birmingham city centre tower block, housing a hotel, resulted in the evacuation of approximately 200 people, with four receiving treatment for injuries.
West Midlands Fire Service was alerted to the fire at a building, which houses an HSBC on the ground floor and a Premier Inn above it, located at the junction of New Street and Stephenson Place, at 2.40am on Sunday (October 5).
The fire service dispatched 12 fire engines and five brigade response vehicles to the scene, involving around 60 firefighters.
Approximately 200 guests were evacuated from the Premier Inn, accessed via The Ramp.
Four individuals from the hotel were treated for smoke inhalation, with three assisted to safety by fire officers, reports Birmingham Live. The fire originated on the ground floor of the building.
A team of 14 firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus tackled the blaze, which took two-and-a-half hours to extinguish.
Fire crews conducted a thorough search of each floor and checked every room to ensure no one else was injured. Following the incident, guests appear to have been relocated to the Waterloo Street Premier Inn.
Dr Jacky Guy, who was staying at the Premier Inn during the fire, commended the staff for their handling of the situation.
Posting on X, she stated: “I was caught up in the fire evacuation from Birmingham New Street. I must commend your staff, especially the lovely Sue, on their cheerful helpfulness. Couldn’t fault them.
“Also the staff at Waterloo Street who took us in for breakfast. Thanks to all.”
