Katy Perry has finally broken her silence about her not-so-secret romance with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Following a string of public displays of affection, the Firework hitmaker, 40, has publicly acknowledged her blossoming relationship with Justin, 53.
The pop star is mum to four-year-old Daisy with former partner Orlando Bloom, but speculation has been rife for months about her connection to Trudeau. She parted ways with the actor in 2023, years after the Pirates of the Caribbean heartthrob proposed on Valentine’s Day 2019.
Despite their romance spanning from 2016 and welcoming a child together, the couple eventually went their separate ways, though they maintain a friendly co-parenting arrangement for their daughter. There’s now little question that Katy has moved forward from the breakup, after photographers captured her in a passionate clinch with Justin during their time aboard her yacht near Santa Barbara, California, reports the Mirror.
During her O2 Arena performance in London last night (Monday 13 October), Katy made reference to her romantic life whilst on stage. She addressed the crowd: “London, England, you’re like this on a Monday night after a whole day at work and a whole day at school. No wonder I fall for Englishmen all the time! But not anymore.”
During her set, an enthusiastic admirer named Darren from Hampshire professed his devotion to Katy, stunning everyone by proposing on stage. Sadly for the hopeful suitor, Katy had to decline, quipping: “You know you really should’ve asked me about 48 hours ago.”
A source disclosed last week that the pair are now “exclusive”, following Justin’s months-long pursuit of the pop star after his 18-year marriage collapsed.
The insider revealed: “Justin was persistent when it came to dating Katy. She enjoys his company and thinks he is incredibly smart, but she was initially scared to get into anything so fast, or even at all, after her breakup and she was also focusing on her world tour. But Justin continued to be present, continued showing up and wanting to be with her.”
A separate source told the Daily Mail that Katy couldn’t care less what her former partner Orlando makes of her fresh romance, explaining: “He’s free to do whatever he wants too. She’s happy and having fun, which she’s allowed to do. So is he.”
However, Orlando seems to be harbouring resentment about Katy’s decision to move on with another man. He left his former flame feeling “let down and humiliated” after he appeared to ridicule her budding relationship.
According to OK!, Katy’s ex-fiancé Orlando took a dig at the surprising new coupling whilst responding to a social media post.
The post from satirical news outlet The Onion featured a doctored image of Orlando enjoying a candlelit dinner with former German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The photograph depicted the duo seated at a romantically lit dinner table, accompanied by a fabricated quote from an alleged “insider” stating, “Angela kept Orlando laughing all night – he couldn’t keep his eyes off her!” Orlando’s response of posting a series of clapping emojis in the comments beneath reportedly left Katy feeling wounded.
An insider revealed to New: “Katy feels very let down and humiliated by Orlando, but she’s also realising that he wasn’t the right person for her. He’s showing his true colours and it’s really very hurtful and spiteful to her, especially as it probably means the end of any possible friendship with him in future. They added: “She hoped they’d both be mature after the break up so she’s feeling really disappointed. “.
Katy was previously wed to controversial ex-comedian Russell Brand, who has since become a born-again Christian and ardent Trump supporter. Their marriage lasted just over 12 months before they parted ways in November 2011.
