Married at First Sight UK star Joe Wood made an emotional admission on Sunday

Married at First Sight UK groom Joe Wood was in tears as he admitted, “It’s overwhelming”.

The eagerly awaited tenth series of the popular E4 programme has officially made its comeback, and it’s already been packed with plenty of drama.

There was trouble for Nelly and Steven earlier this week, despite initially appearing to be amongst the most solid couples. The pair had their first row after their fellow contestants encouraged Steven to compliment his wife during an evening out.

The drama intensified at the second dinner party of the series when co-star Julia-Ruth disclosed that Steven had “bragged” about being on dating app Raya, and had confessed to sleeping with a famous person two weeks prior to appearing on the programme.

Steven immediately refuted the claims, yelling: “Why the f*** does it matter what I do? People are starting to f*** me off,” before marching out of the room, reports OK!

On Sunday night (October 5), the couples got ready for the second commitment ceremony of the series, where they met with relationship experts Mel Schilling, Paul C Brunson, and Charlene Douglas.

Joe and Maeve were the first pair to discuss their journey with the specialists. Throughout the chat, Joe became emotional as he opened up about his battles with alcohol.

“I’ve just found the whole thing quite overwhelming, just the whole process. That’s where she’s been such a solid rock for me,” he said.

“She knows what I’ve been through in the past with the booze and what have you. She’s just been so reliable and so strong for me; she’s literally got a heart of gold.

“That’s why I’m getting emotional because I’ve never met someone that’s so selfless in a relationship.”

Joe went on: “We just know we’re there for each other when we need it. My biggest worry in our relationship though, obviously with my past with the drinking and the drugs and stuff like that.

“She very much [likes to party], which is absolutely fine and I’d do it now and again, but my biggest worry is that I don’t want to be the fun sponge.”

Maeve responded: “You’re not going to be. I’m choosing not to go out because I’d rather be with you… I’ve never had calm in my life. It’s always been drama constantly. And when I’m with Joe, it’s quiet. He’s my calm, and it’s all I’ve ever wanted.”

Joe then confessed his feelings for his new wife, declaring: “I think you’re amazing and I’ve been in love before and I’ve been trying to find love again, and I genuinely think I have fallen in love with you. One hundred per cent.”

An emotional Maeve responded through tears: “I can’t tell you how much you actually mean to me. I’ve never met anyone like you. Do you know what it is? Yeah, I do love you too.”

The programme’s audience were equally moved by the touching exchange, with countless viewers flocking to X (formerly Twitter) to express their feelings.

“No, why am I crying at Joe and Maeve?” one viewer posted, with another chiming in: “Aww, Joe, you’re going to make us cry.”

A third fan gushed, “Oh my god, Maeve and Joe are just adorable,” while another echoed the sentiment, stating, “I’m rooting SO HARD for Maeve and Joe.”
