Three-time world champ Michael Van Gerwen has also allegedly indicated he will skip the final two competitions of the year to go on holiday with his children to Dubai

Michael Van Gerwen has reportedly been spotted at Manchester airport after seemingly giving up on the Players Championship Finals.

The 2025 Ladbrokes Players Championship Finals will take place from November 21-23 at Butlin’s Minehead Resort. The tournament will see the top 64 players from the 2025 Players Championship Order of Merit battling it out for TV silverware and £600,000 in prize money.

Despite having competed at Minehead each year since 2009 he is some way off the rankings to qualify for next month’s event. Van Gerwen is currently lagging with a 93rd place ranking.

It means he is £9,000 off the top 64, with just three tournaments remaining. Yet it appears Van Gerwen has already written off his chances of appearing at Minehead next month.

German darts commentator Adrian Geiler claims he was spotted at Manchester airport on Tuesday. Van Gerwen was apparently catching a flight back to his native Netherlands, reports The Sun.

It means Van Gerwen will miss Wednesday’s latest tournament at Robin Park Leisure Centre in Wigan. He has also allegedly indicated he will skip the final two competitions of the year to go on holiday with his children to Dubai.

Michael van Gerwen has spoken out after he was caught up in a kebab shop brawl. Footage emerged online of the three-time World Champion caught in the middle of a scuffle, as Van Gerwen had to be pulled away by others involved.

Van Gerwen told Darts News: “After an enjoyable night out, we wanted to grab something to eat, and unfortunately I ended up in a situation you’d rather avoid. The man came at me from the kitchen, not the other way round, following a verbal exchange. People are making it sound more dramatic than it actually was, which is a shame.

“As you can see, people stepped in straight away and the situation was resolved. I even spoke with the man’s nephew afterwards, and we cleared the air before we left.”

It comes as Van Gerwen has been having a tough few months, from sorting a divorce with his wife after 11 years of marriage to his dad being diagnosed with cancer.

Players Championship Finals will be broadcast live on ITV4 in the UK, through the PDC’s worldwide broadcast partners including DAZN and Viaplay, and on PDCTV (excluding subscribers based in the UK, Germany, Austria & Switzerland).
