Russian officials claim Donald Trump is trying to blackmail Vladimir Putin as the Russian war on Ukraine continues to rage and Trump has threatened to slap more sanctions on the country

Kremlin mouthpieces are claiming that Donald Trump is “blackmailing” Vladimir Putin, as the president threatens Russia with more sanctions and even said Ukraine might receive Tomahawk missiles from the US.

Putin, in Dushanbe at the end of last week was asked: “In Kyiv, Zelenskyy is threatening to fire Tomahawk missiles at Russia, practically at the Kremlin. And they’re even saying this is some kind of show-off… blackmailing Russia.” Putin replied: “You misspoke – and there’s show-off involved, too. Show-off is involved.”

But Trump, apparently, isn’t aware that Putin thinks he’s bluffing. Or – if he is – he’s still pressing his line: “Perhaps I’ll say, ‘Listen, if this war can’t be resolved, I’ll send them Tomahawk missiles.'”

On November 21, 2024, the Russian President issued an emergency statement to the country, which said: “Continuing their course of escalating the Western-provoked conflict in Ukraine, the United States and its NATO allies previously announced their permission to use their long-range, high-precision weapons systems on the territory of the Russian Federation.

“Experts are well aware, and the Russian side has repeatedly emphasised, that the use of such weapons without the direct participation of military specialists from the countries that manufacture such weapons is impossible.

“I emphasise once again that it is not Russia, but the United States, that has destroyed the international security system and, by continuing to fight and cling to its hegemony, is pushing the entire world toward a global conflict.”

Putin’s staff are not holding back either, with Russian pundits spared picked Trump’s apparent lack of intellect in a recent debate. Speaking on the state-run TV show ‘One’s Own Truth’, political scientist Andrei Sidorchik mocked: “We have to stroke the ego of a man who is behaving like a cowboy from a saloon or an infant. His intellect is not up to par.

The Kremlin propagandist went on to compare the US president – who recently said he would consider providing Ukraine with long-range Tomahawk missiles against Russia – with “pocket change”. Sidorchik said: “He is as simple as pocket change. He thinks that in the end, Russia can be cowed.

“His entourage thinks so, too. Which is sad,” the angry man added.

Chillingly, the show also found that 50% of its viewers were in favour of strikes against NATO countries following Trump’s provocative words.

Sidorchik seemed unsurprised with with figures, saying that the Russian public don’t have to massage Trump’s ego.
