The DWP has confirmed who will be eligible for this year’s Christmas Bonus, which is a one-off payment of £10 to help with costs over the festive period

A special one-off payment is set to land in the bank accounts of certain disability benefit claimants in the coming weeks. The Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ) has confirmed who’s eligible for this year’s Christmas Bonus.

This modest cash boost, given on top of regular benefits, aims to help cover festive season expenses. The bonus, valued at £10, should hit bank accounts in December, just in time for Christmas, reports Birmingham Live.

Those receiving Personal Independence Payment ( PIP ), Disability Living Allowance (DLA), and Attendance Allowance are among those who will qualify, as well as pensioners.

However, individuals solely on Universal Credit without any other benefits won’t be eligible for the Christmas Bonus. Critics have slammed the bonus as essentially worthless due to its meagre £10 value.

Despite years of calls to raise the amount, governments have held firm, even as the bonus’s real value has dwindled with rising prices.

The Government explains: “The Christmas Bonus is a one-off tax-free £10 payment made before Christmas, paid to people who get certain benefits in the qualifying week.

“This is normally the first full week of December. You do not need to claim – you should get paid automatically.”
