An advert that was sent out by Unleashed Global Adventures – run by US hunter Larysa Switlyk – offering people the opportunity to kill endangered leopards has been met with outrage by a number of animal rights groups
A female trophy hunter is offering Brits the opportunity to shoot dead endangered leopards at a discount price.
US hunting celebrity Larysa Switlyk has slashed the price to kill a leopard on Safari in Namibia from £24,300 to £17,000. The advert which has been sent to thousands of people in the UK and around the world shows sick pictures of hunters holding the carcasses of leopards they have killed.
The hunter, who once branded British people “ignorant” after they criticised social media posts of her posing by animals she had killed in Scotland, is advertising the opportunity to kill leopards through her trophy hunting company called Unleashed Global Adventures.
The cost includes being accompanied by a professional hunter who will help in tracking the leopard as well as accommodation in a safari lodge, food, drink and flights from Johannesburg into Namibia.
Last night an anti-trophy hunting campaigner described Switlyk as a “notorious and prolific hunter” and called for her to be banned from entering the UK.
Eduardo Goncalves, founder of the Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting, said: “Leopards are among the world’s most endangered species, according to CITES. It is shocking that this notorious huntress should be selling bargain-basement deals to shoot them for fun.
“Switlyk loves to travel around the world, killing animals on every continent. She has even come to the UK to practice her so-called ‘sport’. She should be given a lifetime ban from Britain. Companies like hers who sell innocent and endangered animals to bloodthirsty trophy hunters should be forced to close.”
Switlyk’s company advertises hunts around the world and her website shows pictures of her posing with a dead white rhino, crocodiles, wild birds, antelopes.
Her company also offers hunters the chance to kill the so-called Big Five which includes lions, elephants, rhinos, water buffalos and leopards.
The controversial hunter also advertises hunting in Scotland where Brits can pay to kill wild goats and the Scottish Red Stag and deer.
In 2018 she was criticised by the RSPCA for shooting wild animals in Norfolk while leading an all-female hunting party.
She was pictured posing with freshly-shot soay sheep, muntjac and Chinese water deer at an undisclosed location in the county.
At the time the RSPCA said: “The images of the trophy hunter in Norfolk are very distressing. The killing of an animal cannot be classed as ‘sport’ of any kind. “
In the same year she was reported to prosecutors in Scotland for firearms offences are shooting dead wild goats on a remote island.
She also posted pictures of her posing next to a dead sheep on Islay, and a dead stag that was shot in Ardnamurchan.
But in a subsequent Instagram and Twitter post she remained unrepentant despite the anger over her hunt – which led the Scottish government to say it was examining whether the law needs to be changed.
Switlyk posted a picture of a seaplane alongside a caption saying she was heading off on her “next hunting adventure”.
She said: “My ride has arrived – I’m headed out on a bush plane for my next hunting adventure and will be out of service for 2 weeks.
“Nothing better than disconnecting from this social media-driven world and connecting back with nature.
“Hopefully that will give enough time for all the ignorant people out there sending me death threats to get educated on hunting and conservation. FYI, I was in Scotland over a month ago…”
