It was Everton and England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford’s unusual choice of attire that grabbed the headlines after his wedding to wife Megan Davison
Jordan Pickford and Everton have long been the perfect combination – much like the England number one’s romance with Megan Davison.
The pair are childhood sweethearts who exchanged vows at a registry office in 2020, though Pickford chose some rather eyebrow-raising gear for the big day. Initially, Pickford and Davison had grand plans to say “I do” in the Maldives surrounded by loved ones.
However, those dreams were dashed – like countless others – by the Covid-19 pandemic. Refusing to postpone their happiness until normality resumed, the goalkeeping hero and Davison settled for a Cheshire registry office instead.
Despite the modest circumstances of making things official, they were photographed sharing a kiss outside the venue, with their outfits – particularly Pickford’s – causing quite a stir.
While Davison, cradling their son Arlo, sported a blouse and white fur coat, the Premier League keeper went viral for his choice to don a Givenchy tracksuit top, torn blue denim and a black baseball cap.
That didn’t prevent the newlywed from broadcasting their union on social media, as she posted the registry office snap on Instagram with the caption: “We’re getting married in the morning.
“Well we should have been! It’s all gone a bit Pete Tong, so here’s a throwback of us on our legal registry office day since there are bigger things going on in the world right now. You are worth the wait my love @jpickford1.”
Before their wedding mishap, the delighted pair faced quite the engagement disaster when Davison’s diamond ring, which reportedly cost Pickford £500,000, became trapped on her finger due to water retention during her pregnancy with Arlo.
She turned to Instagram seeking potential solutions to rescue the ring, informing her followers that she had already tried using washing-up liquid, butter and ice to free the ring from her hand.
Unfortunately, these efforts proved futile as she disclosed just two hours later: “We’ve been to the jewellers for the chop. Thanks so much everyone for the messages, I’ll try and reply once I have feeling back in my fingers.”
Despite the problems that prevented them from achieving their wedding aspirations, the couple managed to fulfil their dream two years later on a stunning Maldives beach. Organised by wedding planners Ikebana Maldives, it was during the summer of June 2022 when the duo shared photographs of their festivities on social media as they were joined by their nearest and dearest in south Asia.
Positioned on a white platform encircled by pink roses as they exchanged their vows, they did so before their 13 guests with one photograph posted on Instagram capturing the parents embracing and kissing their son Arlo.
Megan was dressed in a white off-the-shoulder gown created by Berta fashion house featuring floral lace detailing. She undoubtedly would have been delighted to see her husband sporting a smart white tuxedo.
The Everton talisman traded his jeans for sleek white trousers, and his tracksuit top was swapped out for a crisp white shirt, complemented by a cream bowtie and a dapper waistcoat and blazer.
Pickford completed his wedding ensemble with a pair of brown loafers, which he removed as he strolled from the podium to the golden sand with his newlywed wife.
