Hunter has now pleaded guilty to the murder of Marc Webley, who was shot dead outside an Edinburgh pub on New Year’s Eve 2023

Dramatic footage shows the moment armed officers detained hitman Grant Hunter and his former partner Emma McVie at an Edinburgh apartment block.

The pair were arrested just days after gangster Marc Webley, who had previously dated Euromillions Winner Jane Park, was gunned down on Hogmanay.

The mobile phone recording, filmed through a door’s peephole, captures two officers leading Hunter along a hallway with his hands restrained behind his back. A third officer can be seen accompanying McVie directly behind him.

Hunter, 34, today (November 13) confessed to fatally shooting 38-year-old Webley outside the Anchor Inn in Granton, Edinburgh, shortly before midnight on New Year’s Eve in 2023.

Webley was transported to hospital but succumbed to his wounds on January 1.

Hunter had been scheduled to face trial for the killing at Edinburgh’s High Court but entered a guilty plea to Webley’s murder, reports the Daily Record.

His former girlfriend Emma McVie, 27, and Gary Robertson 22, also appeared at Edinburgh’s High Court and admitted attempting to pervert the course of justice. Hunter also confessed to the attempted murder of Stewart Pearson during the same incident.

The charges against Hunter stated the murder was “aggravated by a connection with serious organised crime.

The three defendants will receive their sentences at Glasgow’s High Court on December 17 2025.

Stunned locals filmed the moment armed police raided the apartment building on Gorgie Road on January 5, less than a week after Webley was killed in front of revellers. Several plain-clothed and uniformed officers were spotted ascending a staircase, with additional officers carrying bulletproof vests following behind.

A substantial police presence was visible at the entrance to the flats.

At Edinburgh High Court, Marc Webley’s relatives witnessed CCTV footage showing the murdered gangster fleeing from his killer before being gunned down from behind.

Family members present in court also heard how Hunter mockingly remarked that his victim didn’t survive to see the “Bells”.

Judge Lord Mulholland viewed CCTV footage of Hunter parking a stolen Hyundai Tucson outside the pub.

The red Hyundai, containing at least one other occupant, was captured drawing up beside Webley before gunfire erupted.

The hitman exited the vehicle and pulled down his balaclava so Webley could identify him.

The gunman was then seen returning to the car before speeding off towards Leith.

Within hours, police had seized a vehicle approximately four miles from the killing in Edinburgh’s Craigentinny district.

The court was told how McVie cleaned the vehicle Hunter used to carry out Webley’s murder.

She also admitted to laundering the clothing both she and her partner had worn on the night of the assassination.

In the days leading up to his death, Webley had posted a series of ‘come ahead’ videos, challenging his enemies to ‘come to the pub’.

He was responding to a previous assassination attempt where a car had mounted the pavement trying to run him down. It’s understood that he had confided in friends that he was bracing himself for another assault following allegations that a £20,000 price had been put on his head.

A source revealed to the Record: “The guy had loads of enemies from Edinburgh and Glasgow. One of them wanted him dead and offered £20,000 to do the job. There’s a long list of suspects who could’ve ordered the hit.

“He was more than aware his life was in danger and was warned by the police too. Marc didn’t care, he wasn’t scared. He knew he’d go out that way. He seemed to accept that one day someone would get the better of him.”

In 2022, Webley was acquitted of attempted murder following accusations that he tried to force a vehicle off the road in Edinburgh.

Back in 2006, he was found guilty of being the shooter in a gangland-style attack on a Kawasaki motorbike, resulting in an 11-year prison sentence.

Webley had been scheduled to face trial on charges of assaulting his former partner.

He was also set to appear in court over an alleged breach of the peace and motoring violations last year.
