Anna Kepner, 18, was found dead on a Carnival Cruise ship in November, and now her mum has shared how she found out her daughter had died
The mother of a teenage girl who was tragically found dead on a cruise ship has revealed that she found out about her daughter’s mysterious cruise ship death via Google.
The body of Anna Kepner, 18, was discovered under a bed on a Carnival Cruise ship during a family holiday earlier this month. She was on a six-day Carnival cruise with her family when she was pronounced dead in international waters between Mexico and Florida.
Her heartbroken mum Heather Wright has revealed she only found out through through Google that Anna was dead and that her youngest son was informed at school by a friend that his sister had been murdered.
She then got a text message asking her to verify if her daughter was aboard a cruise, which sparked a frantic hunt for Anna. After being unable to reach her daughter or her former partner, Wright went online and searched for ’18-year-old died on cruise ship’.
“And that’s when my daughter’s face popped up all over Google,” she revealed.
The Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner recorded Anna’s time of death as 11.17am on November 7, however, details regarding an autopsy, cause of death, or manner of death have not yet been released by authorities.
Her body had been wrapped in a blanket, covered with life jackets, and hidden under a bed before being discovered by a cleaner. Both the FBI and ship security personnel are conducting interviews with additional passengers, crew members and Kepner’s relatives.
The Daily Mail reported that Anna first complained of feeling unwell on the night of November 6 and returned to her cabin. The following day, her father, Christopher Kepner, 41, and other family members began searching the ship for her after she failed to show up for breakfast, reports the Mirror.
Police are currently examining CCTV footage from the vessel and studying electronic key card records that might show who entered the teenager’s cabin, a source told CBS.
Carnival Cruise Line confirmed its full cooperation with the federal investigation.
