Former ER actress Alex Kingston said she hopes she helps others by speaking out about what she’s been through
Strictly Come Dancing’s Alex Kingston has declared she feels “fearless” following her battle with cancer.
The former ER star, who is currently strutting her stuff on the BBC dance competition, was diagnosed with womb cancer last year. She had previously shared that she experienced severe bleeding while she was performing on stage, an incident which led to her diagnosis.
Alex, 62, kept her journey under wraps until she felt ready to share her story, and now hopes to inspire others, according to the Mirror.
“It has made me fearless,” stated Alex, speaking ahead of her appearance at the BBC ballroom contest’s Blackpool show.
“It’s made me want to encourage people to just go for it. I do hope to help others by speaking out about what I have gone through. I hadn’t made it public, and I just thought, ‘I’m going to because I haven’t been voted off yet!'”
The actress also shared that she wants to show people that she is “taking this journey forward” and stressed that if individuals have endured something, whether it is a health issue or a loss, it serves as “a reminder to just live, and live to your fullest”.
Alex has successfully made it past the midway point on Strictly Come Dancing, with only a handful of celebrities left in the competition and hoping to get their hands on the coveted Glitterball trophy.
The actress has won over fans of the BBC ballroom extravaganza and has also impressed judges Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Anton Du Beke and Motsi Mabuse, who consistently give her strong scores for her routines with pro dance partner Johannes Radebe.
However, the star confessed that she is simply taking it “one day at a time” when it comes to the dancefloor.
“It’s a little bit like when I was going through radiation therapy,” shared the actress, who is well known to TV viewers for her role as Dr Elizabeth Corday in the long-running US medical drama.
“I just took my life one day at a time because you couldn’t do anything else with your day. There was nothing else.”
Strictly Come Dancing airs on BBC One.
