A woman has admitted to seeking medical advice from Chat GPT after being bitten, with medics later confirming that her decision to seek hospital treatment was a fortunate one. Holli, who posts on TikTok under the handle @hair.queen.holli, shared that she had been bitten by a spider “a little over a week ago,” and the wound was deteriorating.

The resident of Wolfforth, Texas, explained that she had been “vomiting for the past few days” and was unable to “been able to keep down water”, which led her to contemplate seeking medical assistance. However, when she woke up the next morning with a “numb arm,” she realised something was seriously amiss.

“So I asked Chat GPT what I should do, like if I should go to the emergency room, and he said yes, your symptoms are a ton of red flags, you need to go immediately,” Holli disclosed.

Following the advice of Chat GPT, Holli decided to visit A&E. She recounted her situation, confessing she wasn’t sure if she needed to be there, but explained that Chat GPT had advised her to go.

“They looked at it and said, ‘Yeah, you should be here’. So now here I am,” Holli revealed.

She described the bite as “red, hot, and numb” and stated it was “not good”.

The doctor told her that the “skin tissue was dying” or was “already dead,” although she couldn’t remember exactly.

“So it’s not good, and it is an emergency,” Holli stressed.

She confessed to feeling “embarrassed” about her visit, though she remained “thankful” that Chat GPT had urged her to seek medical attention.

In the comments section, viewers warned the woman that she might have suffered a brown recluse spider bite.

Brown recluse spiders are native to the central and southern parts of the United States. They can be identified by their distinctive violin-shaped marking on their back, though this characteristic isn’t always clearly visible on every specimen.

These arachnids favour dark, undisturbed locations like basements, wardrobes, or wood stacks.

A brown recluse spider bite can pose serious health risks, though not every bite results in severe complications.

At first, the bite typically causes no pain, but within hours it may turn red, inflamed, and sensitive to touch. Sometimes, the bite can develop into a blister before becoming an open wound or ulcer that might require weeks to properly heal.

Whilst some individuals experience only minor symptoms, others may suffer more serious reactions, including raised temperature, shivers, muscle pain, and occasionally, severe skin damage or widespread illness.

Anyone suspecting a brown recluse bite should seek urgent medical care, particularly if experiencing increased pain, expanding redness, or signs of infection.
