The prime suspect in the killing of Charlie Kirk had anti-fascist inscriptions on his bullet casings. Tyler Robinson, 22, was arrested in relation to the shooting today.
The 31-year-old prominent right wing commentator was shot dead in front of thousands of students while he made an address at Utah Valley University on Wednesday (September 10). Speaking at a press conference on the killing that has rocked America to its core, Utah Governor Spencer Cox shared details on the evidence gathered by authorities.
He opened the press conference with the words, “we got him” before sharing further details on the case before later sharing the inscriptions on the suspect’s bullet casings.
Cox said one read, “Hey facist! catch!”, while another casing had, “If you read this you are gay lnao,” inscribed on it. There is no indication as to what the acronym means.
Another cryptic message on a bullet read: “Notices, bulges, Owo what’s this?” The other casing mentioned by Cox featured lyrics from the Italian song Bella Ciao which was adapted by anti-fascists fighting the Nazis and Italian Fascist forces in the 1940s.
Governor Cox confirmed one of Robinson’s family members reached out to a family friend, who contacted a Sherriff with the information, after he started a press conference with “we got him”. The Governor added that Robinson, who was wearing the same clothes in CCTV footage from Wednesday, said Robinson confessed to the shooting when approached by police this morning.
Cox added that the suspect had become “more political in recent years” and mentioned to family that Kirk was coming to Utah, adding that Robinson said he was opposed to the conservative activist’s views.
News of the arrest was broken by US President Donald Trump, who said officials have a “high degree of certainty” the man taken into custody was the suspected shooter. The President said a “person of faith, a minister” went to the suspect’s dad. Trump then said the “father convinced the son” and went to a US Marshal.
Police arrested Robinson, born in 2003, on Thursday at 10pm in St. George near Zion National Park, around 250miles away from the campus where Kirk was shot, according to local reports. Robinson was a student at the Utah Valley University, according to insiders.
The dad of suspect, Matt Robinson, is reportedly a 27-year veteran of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, according to the MailOnline. His mum, Amber Robinson, reportedly worked as a care worker.
