Prince Harry has firmly dismissed claims that he’s “miserable”. The Duke of Sussex, 41, who stepped back from his role as a senior Royal in 2020 and relocated to California with his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and their two children, insists he’s far from unhappy since leaving his homeland, the UK.

During a surprise visit to Ukraine last week, he told the Guardian newspaper: “It is only in certain elements of the press where you see this talk about me being down or saying I am not smiling. This comes from people who think they know what I am thinking and how I am feeling. They are wrong.

“I think parts of the British press want to believe that I am miserable, but I’m not. I am very happy with who I am and I like the life that I live.”

Harry acknowledged that he’s faced some “stressful” periods over recent years – including a family rift and legal battles against several newspaper publishers – but he’s grateful for the “support” he receives from the “British public”.

He added: “”I have certainly had to deal with some very stressful events over the last four years. There has been the uncertainty and stress of the litigation and finding out certain things that have really, really hurt.

“I feel a lot of support from the British public … “.

Harry returned to the UK last week and had a visit with his father, King Charles, for the first time since February 2024. The Royal emphasised his desire to prioritise his relationship with his father as the king continues his fight against cancer.

He shared with the publication: “The focus really has to be on my dad ..”

Harry also expressed his hope to spend more time in his home country in the future, despite an ongoing dispute over his security. He believes that last week’s trip has significantly contributed to making this possible, adding: “Yes I would [like to spend more time in the UK]. This week has definitely brought that closer.”
