Beverley Callard has reportedly joined the cast of the upcoming series of I’m A Celebrity… South Africa.

The 68-year-old, who is famed for playing Rovers Return landlady Liz McDonald on Coronation Street, previously took part in the standard edition of the ITV reality programme in 2020. That year filming was relocated from Australia to a chilly Welsh castle amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, Beverley seemingly couldn’t turn down the chance to tackle the gruelling show in significantly warmer surroundings, with sources claiming she’s currently overseas shooting the programme, reported The Sun.

An insider revealed: “Beverley’s first taste of I’m A Celebrity was in a cold, wet castle in Wales and it was a tough experience – although she loved making so many new friends.”

The source said: “When the chance came up to fly to South Africa and have a second spin of the wheel, she jumped at the chance.

“She is out there now filming and will be trying her best to make it through to the final.”

Beverley initially joined Coronation Street as Liz back in 1989, with the character becoming renowned for her turbulent marriage to Jim McDonald (Charlie Lawson).

She left nearly a decade later, but returned to the role for several extended periods throughout the years. However, she bid farewell to Weatherfield permanently just over five years ago, reports the Mirror.

Beyond Coronation Street, she is recognised for playing Flo Henshaw in Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, and has graced pantomime stages during the festive season on numerous occasions.

I’m A Celebrity’s All Stars edition started in 2023, with former campers returning to the jungle for another go at the gruelling trials. The series was won by Myleene Klass, with Jordan Banjo in second place and Fatima Whitbread third.

It is set to return next year, but the names of the contestants are still under wraps.

ITV has been approached for comment.
