Hollyoaks fans are convinced that a soap legend will be killed off next week as part of the show’s 30th anniversary celebrations after Darren Osborne’s worrying phone call

Hollyoaks viewers are speculating that a beloved character might meet their end in the upcoming 30th anniversary special.

In Tuesday’s episode (14 October) of the Channel 4 drama, Darren Osborne (played by Ashley Taylor Dawson) made a heart-wrenching choice as his resentment towards his best mate Tony Hutchinson (Nick Pickard) escalated.

Darren recently found out that Morgan Osborne (Lottie-Rose Mulhall) isn’t his biological daughter, but is actually Tony’s child, following a past fling with Nancy Osborne (Jessica Fox).

Tony remains oblivious to this shocking revelation, while Darren grapples with the betrayal from his wife and best friend.

Meanwhile, Tony has his own issues to contend with as his former flame Marie Fielding (Rita Simons) demanded the remainder of her hush money, threatening to reveal to Diane that she’s pregnant with his child if she doesn’t receive it, reports the Mirror.

While fretting over his predicament, he momentarily set aside his worries to prepare for his stag do, joined by old pals Carol Groves (Natalie Casey) and Rory ‘Finn’ Finnigan (James Redmond).

Tony’s half-brother Dom Reilly (John Pickard) also joined the festivities, but Tony, preoccupied with Marie’s ultimatum, struggled to enjoy himself.

He confided in Dom about his dilemma, who generously offered to lend him the £5,000 needed to appease Marie.

Choosing not to attend the stag do, Darren headed to Casa McQueen alone, where he unexpectedly bumped into his ex-love, Zoe.

He became dangerously intoxicated and Zoe found herself unable to cope with his condition, prompting John Paul McQueen (James Sutton) to arrive and escort Darren to his residence, intent on helping him sober up.

While John Paul began ringing Nancy to inform her of her husband’s whereabouts, Mercedes’ mobile started buzzing and a heavily inebriated Darren picked up the call.

The identity of the caller remained unclear, but Darren disclosed to them that Tony had poisoned his family’s opinion of him and had also destroyed Mercedes’ existence.

Darren declared that somebody needed to take action and informed the unknown individual that he was prepared to handle the situation personally.

“I will get whatever money it costs, okay?” he stated. “You do the hit. I want you to take Tony out.”

The question remains: who is Darren conversing with, and will they execute the scheme to murder Tony?

Writing in a Hollyoaks Facebook community, one viewer commented: “I honestly see this ending up being a who killed Tony storyline. Half the village has something on him to kill him.

“Mercedes and Marie with the babies, if he doesn’t support them they might go for him. Warren could be the one to do it. Diane for him getting so many women pregnant. Darren because Tony is Morgan’s dad. Obviously Jez and Clare who have this whole plan for the wedding.

“I don’t know might be a long shot especially for such an iconic character who’s been there since the very start but it’s Hollyoaks so nothing surprises me anymore!” Another speculated: “Maybe an attempted murder or push him on his wedding day then he’ll probs forget everything.”

A third chimed in with: “Omg yes who killed Tony wedding day killing.” A fourth concurred: “Interesting theory, I like it.”

Hollyoaks airs Monday to Wednesday on E4 at 7pm and first look episodes can be streamed Channel 4 from 7am
