The rising star, who shot to fame when her 2022 hit Go exploded on TikTok, has previously been candid about the heartbreaking loss that shaped her.
Taking to Instagram, she revealed: “I went through a real ego death last year after losing my grandad and going through a breakup at the same time.
“While I was in the storm I knew I wanted to document my experience in song form, to show the reality of how hard it was, but also so I could see if would ever get out of it, because if I’m being honest I really didn’t think I was gonna get through that time of my life.
“It’s honest, it’s uncomfortable, and it’s really scary for me to release, but that is true art to me. if it doesn’t cost you anything then what’s the point?”
In a touching 2024 tribute to her beloved grandfather, Cat penned: “My incredible grandad, John Burns, is now up in heaven. I feel so lucky to have gotten 23 years with you grandad. my inspiration. YOU LIVED. He was 89.
“Born in 1934. Part of the windrush generation, came to England and worked his absolute ass off n BOUGHT HIS HOME in Wales. He did so much, but he loved photography! Documenting every moment. He was fighter. Even in his last moments he was trying to sit himself up and told the doctors he didn’t need any help.
“I’m so glad you’re not in pain anymore grandad. A few weeks ago I got to properly come out to my grandad, he was shocked and sad that I could ever think that he wouldn’t love me or that he would see me differently. He told me he loved me and held my hand so tight. He has no idea how healing that was for me.
“He is literally what we all want from life, to live a long one, and be able to look at all you created before you go. So many parts of him I will take with me in life. Mainly his kindness, his ability to forgive, his RESILIENCE, his fight, his desire to connect, help and inspire, and his fruitful lighthearted look on life, he would joke about any and everything, and love to wind you up haha.
“I promise to keep your legacy alive. I promise to let people know your name, our name, as far and as wide as I can. Through all the times where I may feel low, I’ll remind myself that grief is love with no place to go. I love you so much grandad. Rest in eternal peace.”
