Luigi Mangione remains in prison as he awaits his trial for the murder of the CEO of UnitedHealth, but months before Luigi was the victim of his own crime after being assaulted

Luigi Mangione was allegedly beaten up by seven different transgender women months before he was accused of murdering a billionaire CEO in Manhattan. It is believed the altercation was caused in a dispute over $1,500 between Luigi and the women.

Luigi, 27, is currently in prison waiting to go on trial for murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York in December 2024. Luigi remains charged for federal crimes, although claims of terrorism have since been dropped following court hearings.

He is now waiting in jail for the trial to officially decide whether he is guilty or not, and whether he could potentially face the death penalty. But now, previous stories from Luigi’s life have been unearthed in a new book.

According to the New York Post, an anonymous author has revealed that the alleged assassin was a victim himself after he was beaten up in Southeast Asia. Explaining all in a self-published book titled “Last Known Contact: The Untold Story of Luigi Mangione”, the writer gave the shocking story of how Luigi’s Thai dream turned to a nightmare.

In the book, the author claims to have met Luigi whilst the pair were backpacking through Thailand. There, Luigi boasted about the encounter and shared text messages and photos of when he got down and dirty with the transgender woman, known as “ladyboys”.

Recalling the experience, Mangione — together with a group of pals — had dropped by what the author described as an “infamous sex bar” in the red-light district of Thailand’s capital, Bangkok. After a fun few hours, the group were given the bill, working out to around $1,500 (£1,139) despite only drinking a couple of beers.

Clearly stunned at such a high cost, the lads asked the bar about why the cost was so high. It was at this point that they were surrounded and attacked by the ladyboys, according to the author.

Luigi was luckily able to escape relatively unharmed, suffering only scratches and bruises during the attack. He later boasted about the story in text messages he shared with the nameless author on WhatsApp, joking: “Lol not a ladyboy, more like 7 ladyboys.”

The author admitted that they were not present themselves when the fight got underway, but shared a number of screenshots from conversations the pair had during their time in Thailand. The insider also shared some photos of the injuries that Luigi allegedly received, including some large scratches on the man’s biceps and forearm.

This is not the first time that Luigi has opened up on the bizarre story, after Luigi himself spoke about being “beaten up by seven ‘ladyboys'” in messages to friends he sent at the beginning of this year. Other people who claimed to meet Luigi have shared their own encounters with him, including revealing his inner passions.

Professional footballer Christian Sacchini met Mangione at a Bangkok pub in March 2024. In an interview with the Times, the Maryland native spoke enthusiastically about video games and Pokémon before launching into a rant about how “effed up” the US health care system was compared to Thailand’s.
