A massive fire has broke out in a building overnight leaving multiple people hurt. Firefighters are currently tackling the inferno at a building in Rochdale, with police officers establishing a substantial cordon around the area. The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the fire originated in a commercial building near Mellor Street.
Local residents are being urged to avoid the vicinity, as roads in the surrounding area have been closed off. A spokesperson for GMFRS informed the Manchester Evening News: “Shortly after 3:15am this morning, several fire engines including the hydraulic platform from Oldham were called to attend a fire involving a commercial building near Mellor Street, Rochdale. Crews arrived quickly and using two ultra high pressure lances and two hose reels to extinguish the fire.
“They worked alongside Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service to ensure the area was safe. Crews remain in attendance at this time.”
The MEN has reported that several individuals sustained injuries in the fire. However, further details regarding the number of people affected and the extent of their injuries are still pending confirmation.
