Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield, the legendary bassist for Stone Roses and Primal Scream, has died aged 63, just days after posting a Facebook tribute to his late wife Imelda
Mani’s final Facebook post before the Stone Roses star’s death was a heartfelt tribute to his wife Imelda. Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield, died on Thursday aged 63 – almost two years to the day since Imelda’s tragic passing.
Imelda died in November 2023, following a three-year fight against stage four bowel cancer. She and Mani were parents to twin boys, Gene and George, 12, who arrived in January 2013.
In a heartbreaking tribute shared on Facebook on Tuesday, the Stone Roses and Primal Scream bassist posted five photographs of his late wife and penned: “Today marks the second anniversary of my Imelda’s passing… we miss her every day, but we have learnt to adapt to her being in ‘the next room’…. we cant see or touch you, but we feel your presence every day… rest well my love.”
An avalanche of shock and grief has followed news of the death of the Manchester icon, famed for cult favourites such as ‘I Am the Resurrection’ and ‘I Wanna Be Adored’.
Tim Burgess, frontman of The Charlatans, called him a “beautiful friend”, declaring: “One of the absolute best in every way.”
Oasis singer Liam Gallagher expressed being in “total shock” and feeling “devastated” upon learning the news.
