The glass bauble, which is 12cm high by 9cm wide, shows King Charles’s first wife in a red top with dogs on it – but shoppers have been quick to point out it looks like someone else
A rather bizarre new Christmas bauble has been ridiculed for resembling “Clare Balding in a festive jumper.” The holiday tree ornament from Selfridges is the new £40 Princess Diana Christmas bauble, and has been crafted entirely from glass.
It measures 12cm in height and 9cm in width. The decoration portrays Prince Charles’s first wife donning a red top adorned with dogs. However, cheeky customers were quick to jest at its expense. Outraged social media user Melanie Cooper said: “It looks more like Clare Balding wearing a Christmas jumper to me. And I bet it costs way too much as well.”
And another, called Laura Lindsay added: “What in the Jesus, Mary and Joseph and his little donkey too, is that?” Natasha Guy said: “They’ve done Diana so dirty.”
Lauren added: “Thought it was Donald Trump, a younger version.” Sarah Luddington joked: “That’s a really good Rodney Trotter bauble.”
The bauble is part of Selfridges’ new festive collection, where shoppers can purchase other members of the Royal Family. Previously available ones of Queen Elizabeth II also carry a price tag of £40. Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, are both available for £38 each. There are also ornaments of William and Kate. However, there is no Prince Harry.
The website describes: “Selfridges Edit glass Christmas decoration, 100% glass. Princess Diana design, realistic features, hanging loop. Height 12cm, width 9cm. Wipe with a clean, dry cloth.”
In other terrible Christmas decorations news, some shoppers have branded Brighton’s Churchill Square’s Christmas tree an eyesore.
The controversial centrepiece (which the Daily Star went to visit) split Brighton locals, proving that when it comes to Christmas decorations, you can’t wrap up everyone’s approval.
Taking to the Brighton People community Facebook group, a woman shared a picture of what has become one of the most polarising Christmas decorations in the nation.
The picture showcased a floating, spiral artificial tree as Churchill Square’s centre piece. Shaped like a slinky dangling from the ceiling, complete with twinkly lights, the Christmas tree sparked heated debate. One Facebook user commented: “Really?
“Brighton’s Christmas decorations are a joke every year, North laine is the only place it looks Christmassy in my opinion.” A person wrote: “In anticipation of the responses……
“I actually think Churchill Square has done a great job compared to the last few years!!! This is only part of the decorations, the centre looks much more festive and it feels more Christmasy than it has for a while!”
