Jurgen Klopp has been linked with a sensational return to Liverpool – after walking away from the club in 2024 – and Daily Star Sport looks at everything he’s said about the role

Arne Slot is starting to feel the heat as Liverpool boss as the Reds were humiliated by Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon.

Slot’s side are slipping and sliding down the Premier League table – and we’re even leapfrogged by Everton on Monday evening after their win over Manchester United.

And some fans have started to call for Slot’s head, hoping for a return from former boss Jurgen Klopp. Klopp has been linked with a shock return to Anfield with some bookies marking him as favourite for the job.

Klopp walked away from the Liverpool job in 2024, after admitting he was “tired” after the better part of a decade at the helm of the Reds. However, in his final press conference, Klopp said he would be there if the city needed him.

The German, who was honoured with the freedom of Liverpool in 2022 for his commitment to the city, said it was “wonderful to know that I spent a big time of my life here”.

He said Liverpudlians were “as close as possible” to perfection in how they treated people and he took the honour he was given seriously.

“Probably for a lot of people [it is] rather funny, for me, it feels like responsibility,” he said. “I don’t imagine that the club will need my help in the future, but if the city needs me, I’m there.”

Upon his departure, he insisted he would not manage another Premier League side, although speaking on the Diary of a CEO podcast last month, he left the door open for a return to Merseyside.

“I said I will never coach a team in England again, that means if it’s Liverpool, theoretically it’s possible,” Klopp explained.

However, Klopp also indicated that he isn’t looking to make a return to management any time soon.

The 58-year-old is currently working as Red Bull’s Global Head of Soccer, having taken up the position at the start of 2025, and has insisted he is enjoying life away from the touchline.
