A woman who works in a cocktail bar decided to charge a punter for using the toilet facilities in a ‘rude’ way. She said the climate in hospitality is “hard” at the moment, so every flush and piece of loo roll can start to add up!

When the barmaid saw a potential punter head into the bathroom, she was watching like a hawk to see if he would buy a drink. But when he didn’t, she decided to slap him with a £10 fee instead.

Ignition Cocktail Bar in Ulverston “warned” people that they would be charged if they walked into their toilets without purchasing a drink from the bar, with whoever wrote the post saying that they were “on one”.

They wrote: “It’s hard as it is in hospitality, but when someone who never has come into our venue goes straight up to our toilets to take a [poo emoji] then try walking out without buying a drink, I’m done and sick of it keep happening. Water rates still apply to us!

“So, I asked the gentleman if he wanted to pay cash or card, his preference was contactless. So that cheeky s*** cost him £10! Please be warned, I’m off on one today”.

Please note, the following post contains strong language.

The receipt was then shared on their Facebook page, put through by ‘Daniele’ on till three. Amusingly, she put the product purchased down as ‘taking a s*** tax’.

At the bottom of the receipt, it read ‘thank you for shopping with us,’ which would’ve likely made the man feel extremely embarrassed about his actions.

In the comments of the post, people had mixed feelings, however.

One man wrote: “So you’re saying you’ve never walked through a shop, gone for a p***, and not purchased anything? Debenhams, McDonald’s, Asda, Tesco? I think someone might be telling fibs if you say no.”

Someone else pointed out: “In Europe, toilets are locked unless you’re using the venue for buying food or drinks, otherwise you have to pay!”

Meanwhile, another shared: “I’ve always said that if you use a pub or bar toilets at least buy something, even a packet of crisps… you’re using the facilities, so least buy something and put some money behind the till!”

Others shared that the man may have had a “medical condition” he was “embarrassed” about, so didn’t want to ask if he could use the facilities for fear of embarrassment or being turned away.

Ignition’s Facebook group wasn’t sympathetic to this suggestion though, responding: “What about asking us first? Isn’t that the right thing to do?”

They also shared that they have a sign up that states “toilets are for customer use only”.
