The two world leaders met yesterday (August 15) at an airstrip in Anchorage, Alaska, as Vladimir Putin pulled out every trick in the book not to suffer indignity via a Donald Trump handshake

Vladimir Putin pulled off a clever trick to avoid a handshake trick by the “nervous” Donald Trump at the meeting in Alaska.

The US President met his Russian counterpart in Alaska yesterday (August 15) in a bid to reach a peace deal on Ukraine. When the pair came face to face, Putin managed to counter Trump’s infamous handshake technique which involves taking his opposite number’s hand and jerking it towards himself.

Clips show the pair meeting on a red carpet at the Alaskan airstrip, before the proposed peace talks. Approaching Trump, Putin stretches out his arm to make sure that he can’t be dominated by the MAGA man. What unfolds after this is just a “normal” handshake, according to Russian body language expert Ekaterina Bogacheva.

Ekaterina told Russian publication LIFE: “If we talk about the protocol shooting, then it is there, where they are standing next to each other, that he demonstrates this when he sharply pulls our president’s hand towards himself, but he failed to pull off his trick.

“After all, it is known that for Americans their nation is the best, they are the best, and Donald Trump demonstrates this dominant position in any way. However, when they greet each other for the first time, when they meet on the red carpet, we do not see this.

“It is rather a standard protocol handshake. It is also very clear that Donald is nervous, while our president is more confident and in a good mood.”

The interlocutor also made a point about Trump’s “long tie”, and his “unacceptable”, scruffy appearance.

Ekaterina added: “There are so many people who immediately rush into the negotiating situation when it hasn’t even started yet. The issue here is probably more about the organization and the observance of some professional ethics, because in the presence of the top officials of the largest powers, allowing yourself to behave like this is very strange. No matter what national characteristics we try to explain it with, it is still unacceptable.”

The two leaders departed their crucial discussions yesterday without securing an agreement, with “ceasefire” notably absent from their public statements.

The pair engaged in talks lasting almost three hours tonight after arriving in Anchorage, Alaska, attempting to forge a peace settlement for Ukraine. There had been speculation they might remain in bilateral discussions for up to eight hours whilst seeking to conclude the ongoing three-year conflict.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed he will meet Donald Trump at the White House following yesterday’s Alaska summit with Vladimir Putin.

The Ukrainian leader revealed that he had a lengthy conversation with the US president, lasting over an hour-and-a-half, after Trump’s meeting with the Russian autocrat. Zelenskyy also disclosed that he and Trump had phone discussions with European leaders about his pivotal conversation with Putin.

The Ukrainian President expressed his openness to a face-to-face meeting with both Trump and Putin, an idea suggested by the US president.

In a statement, Zelenskyy announced: “On Monday, I will meet with President Trump in Washington, D.C., to discuss all of the details regarding ending the killing and the war. I am grateful for the invitation.”

He continued: “Ukraine reaffirms its readiness to work with maximum effort to achieve peace. President Trump informed about his meeting with the Russian leader and the main points of their discussion.”, reports the Mirror.

“It is important that America’s strength has an impact on the development of the situation.”
