PPE Medpro, a firm linked to the bra tycoon, was ordered by a judge to pay back £122million after it was found to have breached a contract to supply surgical gowns

Countdown legend Carol Vorderman has taken a swipe at ex-pal Baroness Michelle Mone for her role in a Covid contract scandal.

PPE Medpro, a firm linked to the bra tycoon, was ordered by a judge to pay back £122million after it was found to have breached a contract to supply surgical gowns.

And Carol, 64, stuck the boot in by posting a screenshot of the news on her Instagram with the caption: “Yes at last.”

Calling for the scandal-hit lingerie boss to be booted out of the House of Lords, she added: “I’m so glad I fought against PPE corruption but the fight goes on.” PPE Medpro, a consortium led by the peer’s hubby Doug Barrowman, was awarded contracts by the Tories to supply equipment after she recommended it to ministers.

The High Court ruled on Wednesday the gowns “were not, contractually speaking, sterile, or properly validated as being sterile” and couldn’t be used in the NHS. And shadow energy secretary Claire Coutinho described Baroness Mone, 53, as “disgraceful” and called for her to resign.

The Tory MP said: “I think it was disgraceful what she’s done. It was also a Conservative government who started the lawsuit. The lawsuit, which means that she’s had to repay this money, started in, I think it was 2022, when Rishi Sunak was prime minister. We’ve taken away the Conservative whip, she’s no longer a Conservative peer, and I think the honourable thing to do, particularly in light of this, would be to resign.”

Elsewhere, The Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice campaign described the tycoon’s place in the House of Lords as “a slap in the face” to those who lost loved ones during the pandemic. It has launched a petition on Change.org which calls for her to be stripped of her peerage which has been backed by more than 6,500 people.

Baroness Mone, who currently has the Tory whip suspended, wrote on X that the “judgment against PPE Medpro is shocking but all too predictable”. She said: “It is nothing less than an Establishment win for the Government in a case that was too big for them to lose.”

And her husband Mr Barrowman said it was a “travesty of justice”.
