OPINION: Kim Kardashian has encouraged a generation of women to get their bums out, now she’s telling us to embrace the (removeable) bush too. Senior Features Writer Layla Nicholson gives her two pence worth

Kim Kardashian has brought many things to our society. Most of them – I believe – to be more on the questionable side. Alongside becoming the body ideal for many young women in the 2010s, then subsequently the template for plastic surgeons to carve fans into a replica of the mega reality star, Kim has revolutionised the underwear game.

Despite already rendering the world wide-eyed earlier this year with her SKIMS ‘nipple piercing bra’, the savvy business mogul has now probably etched a new forehead wrinkle onto the population of the planet with her latest stunt – even those who are constrained by Botox.

So, what has Kim done this time? Well, if you have been online in any capacity today (October 15) then you’ve probably seen that SKIMS has launched a ‘pube thong’.

Yes, that’s right.

This isn’t some brain rot AI creation, nor April Fools or even some very hairy 70s fever dream. Her underwear brand is now selling the ‘Faux Hair Micro String Thong’ that literally looks like someone’s swept a barber’s floor and ‘Pritt Sticked’ the remnants of a trim on a pair of knickers.

However, what Kim Kardashian has done with her pubey late-stage capitalism creation – other than trigger an existential crisis en masse – is that she’s confirmed that the 70s bush is back after years of speculation

Though, we already knew that shaving down under was out – we’ve been saying it for yonks.

Here, at the Daily Star we’ve championed the right to a hairy 70s-style bush for years, so let’s just say we’ve been ahead of the trend. Maybe Kim took some inspiration from us?

While marketing master Kim is flogging the unshaven thong – in array of colours – for a hair-raising £34, a bunch of women advocating for ditching the razor have been trying to get the word out about the bush being ‘back’ for some time now.

Yes, shaving is a very much ‘each to their own’ activity, but the late 90s and early 00s solidified that having a fuzzy garden was not very fashionable. Instead, it was a symbol of ‘letting yourself go’.

However, since the boom of the likes of TikTok and Only Fans in 2020, many young women have happily unleashed their hairy bits both online – and on the beach.

And, in line with this ‘trend’ of embracing the bush, we happily obliged to interview a long-list of these ladies stating their case.

Back in 2022, we regularly spoke to model Fennella Fox who declared then that the 70s style bush is back. She even made £6,000-a-month from flogging her unshaven bits online.

We also had a chat with cam girl Maya Petite, who featured on Channel 4’s Confession of a Cam Girl, where she told us that embracing her body hair was empowering for herself – and her bank.

There was also Aimee, from Australia, who daren’t take a razor to her down under and urged other women to “embrace their bush for the summer” back in 2022.

It might have been a ghastly idea for many just a few years ago, but it appears now that the 70s style bush has become the latest bizarre accessory to hit the drawers of the fashion focused.

So, Kim Kardashian might have confirmed that the bush is back in late 2025, but we can happily say that we’ve long been backing the bush way before the birth of the pube thong.

Let us know in the comments what you think about the SKIMS hairy thong – is it time we embrace the bush or should we bring back trimming the foliage?
