Alex Scott has been caught smuggling contraband into camp, following on from celebs in previous years, and her fellow contestants could now face the wrath of the show’s producers

I’m a Celebrity star Alex Scott has been caught breaking the show’s rules – and it looks likely to lead to consequences either for her or the camp. Alex has been caught smuggling in a prohibited item, breaching the rigorous rules imposed by I’m a Celeb producers.

The former footballer was spotted with salt, which is on the banned items list, and was seen seasoning the crocodile’s feet during Sunday evening’s episode. Presenting duo Ant and Dec subsequently confirmed it was “contraband” and revealed that viewers would need to wait to discover the consequences.

It could result in the group having their rations cut – which would potentially spark fury and further rifts amongst the campmates. It remains unclear whether the other contestants knew about Alex’s rule-breaking behaviour, or if she was acting independently. The incident follows previous series in which celebrities have found themselves in hot water.

Last year saw a double infringement involving salt and teabags. Radio presenter Dean McCullough successfully smuggled tea bags past the programme’s bosses, which he secretly added to the morning’s hot water supply, reports the Mirror.

When the beverage was shared with fellow contestants, boxer Barry McGuigan was concerned about its unusual colour. Knowing the real reason, Coronation Street actor Alan Halsall explained: “We got a bit of mud in the kettle but if you try it, it’s not too bad.”

Appearing hesitant, Barry cautiously tasted the dubious-looking water, before discovering it was tea. He flashed his fellow campmates a knowing wink and announced: “Fantastic!”

Their rule-bending eventually came back to haunt them, though, as presenter Melvin Odoom subsequently faced a task to secure cupcakes – but was only allowed half his prize.

A jungle amnesty followed, which saw contestants instructed to “bring all remaining contraband to the Bush Telegraph to avoid further punishment”.

Melvin later admitted he had also smuggled in seasoning.

There have been numerous similar episodes throughout the years. Gillian McKeith succeeded in bringing forbidden items when she appeared on the programme in 2010, concealing salt, herbs and various spices in her undergarments whilst entering camp.

In 2012, Hugo Taylor violated regulations by hiding multiple salt and pepper packets at the bottom of his rucksack. Model Amy Willerton managed to smuggle in entire makeup bag in 2013 – and avoided detection for 10 days.

TV cook Gino D’Acampo also packed his pillow with banned goods.

He revealed at the time: “I stuffed it with a lot of salt, sugar, four different teas and 10 sachets of coffee,” he said. “I had it in my shoes as well. I thought, ‘If the security guys catch the stuff in the pillow, I still have the stuff in the shoes’.”
